St Patricks Day Parade 2016
The SES Group worked with the St Patricks Day Parade through the streets of Birmingham this year, to ensure a fun and safe day was had by all.
Birmingham is believed to have the largest Irish population in the UK, as well as Britain’s only Irish Quarter, which is centred on Digbeth. This is the world’s third largest parade behind Dublin and New York and was particularly special this year as the parade marked 100 years since Ireland’s independence.
On the day, the SES Group took control of the crowd and traffic management in Digbeth, this is the second year the SES Group has worked on the parade, deploying over 125 staff. With over 80,000 people in attendance there was an electric atmosphere, celebrating Irish culture in the glorious Sunday sunshine.
The main challenges of the event was controlling one of the largest turnouts the parade has seen, with the police estimating over 80,000 people in attendance. We closed the roads for the event and the surrounding areas as the celebrations took part in a busy part of the town. Disruption was kept to a minimum and our traffic management team did a fantastic job of controlling the vehicles and lively crowds.
