RSAS Accreditation
The Railway Safety Accreditation Scheme (RSAS) allows the police to accredit employees of organisations involved in railway safety and security. The accreditation scheme helps the police to tackle low level crime and anti-social behaviour, improve intelligence and maximise public confidence.
The RSAS-accredited organisations and employees help the police by:
• Exercising limited powers that help to tackle incivilities and anti social behaviour.
• Providing a high-visibility presence on the railway, reducing crime and reassuring passengers.
• Addressing certain issues immediately, without involving a police officer.
RSAS Scheme Members
Currently there are six train operating companies who are accredited by the scheme: Transport for London (TfL), SouthEastern Trains, Southern/GTR, South West Trains, East Midlands Trains, Virgin Trains East Coast.
The SES Group have applied for and been granted RSAS company status by ACPO CPI Ltd.
Company representatives will be attending the RSAS quarterly meeting, hosted by British Transport Police on the 22nd of April. This is a great step forward for the SES Group. It also means that we can tender for more specialist roles linked with railway security.
The RSAS qualification is the sister to the CSAS accreditation but covers the entire rail network. It covers some of the powers of a police constable on an RSAS trained operative. This is a massive growth sector within private security which the SES group intend to be fully involved in.
