Stephen Hawking’s Funeral – Security Services
The SES Group organised security and crowd management, including barriers and viewing areas for Stephen Hawking’s funeral.
On the 31st March, the funeral of Stephen Hawking took place Great St Mary’s Church, Cambridge.
Crowds lined the streets to pay their final respects to the much admired scientist and a spontaneous round of applause broke out as six porters from the physicist’s former college carried his coffin from the hearse into the church.
As well as the thousands who lined the streets, there were 500 invited guests to the service, this included Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones, who starred in The Theory of Everything, a film about his life.
The SES Group had 6 day’s notice to plan all the security measures, this included daily meetings working with the Council, Police and the Family.
Overall we had 50 staff on the job setting up barriers/viewing areas, crossing points for public, press area management, assisting the Church and the transferring of the invited guests to the wake which was held at Trinity College.
