The largest Cambridge Half Marathon yet!
This was the fifth year of the Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon after it was launched in 2012, and our first year working with this popular sporting event. On the 28th February 2016, over 7,000 runners took part, in support of Cancer Research UK.
The Cambridge Half Marathon is a high profile city centre running event, that gets more popular every year and as a result there is a greater need to manage the crowds and traffic. We were delighted to have over 60 staff working on the event and to build upon the success of previous years.
The 2016 event was a new one-lap loop starting on Victoria Avenue, with Midsummer Common being the main event hub. The new section saw runners head out of the city along Trumpington Road, through Grantchester and back into the city along the Barton Road. Looking after the traffic management on the day was our biggest challenge as was the deployment, with large crowds watching and moving throughout the 6 mile course.
With over 7000 participants and a supportive crowd, the result was fantastic and the SES Group were proud to be instrumental in the success of the event. Congratulations to all the runners that took part, and the charities you supported – we hope to see you again next year.
